Raymond Holder Wheeler was born in Berlin, Massachusetts in 1892. He received his A.B. in 1912, his A.M. in 1913, and his Ph.D. in 1915, all from Clark University. Wheeler came to the University of Oregon in 1915. He then served in World War I, 1917-1919. He returned to the University of Oregon and was made full professor in 1920, serving as chairman of the Department of Psychology before coming to the University of Kansas in 1925.
